My router is not working
Checklist
- The first thing you want to check is that the box has power. There should be a number of green lights flashing on the box.
- The most important thing is that the Ethernet cable between the box and the wall is connected to the BLUE port at the back of the box.
If the above are correct:
You will want to check that the Ethernet port on the wall is working correctly. The easiest way to do this is to plug your laptop directly into the port using an Ethernet cable. If you are still not getting access to the network, there is probably a problem with your wall port.
If this is the case, please e-mail computer.office@bnc.ox.ac.uk and someone will come to help you sort that out. The most likely cause here is that the Ethernet port on your wall has been damaged, which we can easily fix.
I can’t connect to the wireless network
If you can see the network, but can’t connect to it, the most likely cause is that you are entering the wireless key incorrectly. The wireless key is unique to each router, and can be found on the label on the bottom of the router. It is labelled as “WiFi Network Password”.
I cannot see the network
There are a few things you can do:
First make sure that the box is plugged in. If it is on, you should just be able to connect to the network, even if the Ethernet is not plugged in. The network will be called OnNetworks##. If it is not showing up, try moving closer to the box. If moving closer to the box solves the problem, you were simply out of range. If the range is too small to cover your room, please e-mail computer.office@bnc.ox.ac.uk and we can remotely increase the strength of the signal so that you gain coverage.
If moving closer to the box doesn’t solve the problem, try turning it off and on again. If this does not solve the problem, please e-mail computer.office@bnc.ox.ac.uk, and someone will come to assist you.
